Compiled PH won't need re-compiling: it'll run on any VMS (any recent version,
VAX or Alpha).
Haven't tried 7.1-2, but I don't think it's greatly different to 7.1.
7.2 is rumoured to handle large directories (>128 blocks) much better: maybe
that's the performance enhancement Blue's talking of.

I seem to recall 7.10e1 was quite buggy though, and it certainly isn't y2k
compliant. You'd do well to consider 710g2.
710g2: latest & greatest y2k version (710g1 not radically different, 710g buggy)
710f4/6: the latest version if you don't want y2k, although I can't imagine why
anyone would trouble themselves to avoid fixes: 710g2 does everything 710f
does, in much the same way, if you don't avail yourself of the y2k stuff in it.

If you do upgrade ph, you will have to recompile of course.

Regards, Chris
