Powerhouse Programmer Opportunities - Australia
-----------------------------------------------

I don't usually agree with the use of this list for advertising or for
'positions vacant' postings, so my apology comes right up front. Use
your <DELETE> key here immediately if you are not interested.

We have the following full-time positions advertised nationally this
week. The positions are based in Armidale NSW, Australia, a regional
University city ( pop. approx 23,000), about mid-way between Sydney and
Brisbane, 2 hours inland from Coffs Harbour.

So, if you're looking for a change from the congestion of city traffic
etc., high cost of housing in Sydney, you're seeking a better quality of
life for yourself and family.... PLEASE READ ON.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Agricultural Business Research Institute (ABRI) is a rapidly growing
company based on campus of the University of New England which markets
information systems to livestock industries on an international basis.

We have two new positions to fill in a 15-person software team.
Applicants should have some experience with PowerHouse in a VMS
environment (at least 2 years preferable). Competence in PC languages
such as Delphi would also be an advantage.

The assignment is to develop and support PowerHouse applications in the
short term and then participate in the development of a range of
decision making applications using leading-edge PC tools. Opportunities
exist for overseas consulting experience.

ABRI Software
-------------
The ABRI has developed a comprehensive package for handling the breeding
records of various species of livestock. It is called the International
Livestock Register (ILR). This operates at various levels – individual
herds, national breed associations and national databases for various
breeds. Data in compatible form is combined across various countries for
international genetic evaluations.

ABRI has developed its software in PowerHouse for a VMS environment. It
is installed in Australia (where it holds over 90% of the market), New
Zealand (where it runs the national beef system), Thailand (the national
system), Canada and the USA.

The functionality and cost effectiveness of the system is such that it
is the most widely used livestock recording system in North America.

Positions
---------
ABRI has immediate strong demand for installing the ILR software into
new sites in North America and the Philippines. We seek to employ
additional programmers with PowerHouse experience in a VMS environment
for help with this task and to support some of our existing
applications.

Future developments
--------------------
In parallel with our PowerHouse developments, ABRI is evaluating a new
platform for delivery of its technology into an international market
over the next decade. Thus by year 2000 we expect to be undertaking
major redevelopment work using leading-edge PC development tools.

Environment
-----------
The ABRI has a total team of around 150 people. Seventy (70) of these
based in our head office in Armidale, NSW. The software team for
maintenance and support of our PowerHouse products consists of eleven
people.

ABRI has purchased 2 hectares of land on the campus of the University of
New England. This is a pleasant park-like environment. Armidale is a
vibrant cultural community with strengths in music, art, drama, sporting
facilities and bush walking opportunities in the many National Parks
nearby. The University makes Armidale a truly multicultural community.

Applications
------------
If you wish to be considered to join the ABRI team please send your
resume including details of two referees who may be contacted to:
