Oracle RDBMS (was: What's the best way...)

Actually Arthur, Oracle has continued to develop Oracle Rdb and released
version 7. It's better than ever. They are also working on porting it to
Windows NT and pushing it as a datawarehouse solution due to it's
performance. Check out the "Rdb Journal" pages at Oracle's web site.

I believe that Oracle originally bought Rdb from Digital to strip it of its
advanced technology. E.g. the optimiser and hot backups, something that
Oracle 7 still can't do. However, I think that when the Oracle kids got a
hold of it they found out what a good, robust and advanced product Digital
made and decided to keep it going. I think Oracle management believed that
Rdb customers would move to Oracle 7 or Oracle 8 but instead they threatened
to go to Sybase or SQL Server instead. So Oracle backed down on the high
license costs and promised to continue to develop and support Rdb. So now
Oracle sells three RDBMS's, Oracle 7.3.4, Oracle 8 and Oracle Rdb.

Isn't RDB something Oracle bought in order to kill it?
They are doing it by stopping development and charging huge
maintenance
	fees.
