Display & modify in Entry mode

I have a screen where I am displaying the values of several fields in entry
mode by setting the fields to DISPLAY.  The cursor then jumps down to the
first non-display field in entry mode.  The problem is if the user enters a \
to back up a field to modify, the screen won't allow the DISPLAY fields to be
modified (obviously).

How can I display the values of several fields as described above, but still
allow the user to back up and modify these values if they want to (in ENTRY
mode)?
