Moving databases across partitions

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to a problem we are
copping with moving a database across disk partitions.

We have a Data General AViiON machine running DG/UX and are running
PH733d3 with Interbase 3.3D

We have our Dictionary and Database on the same disk partition. I'll call
it disk partition 1

If we restore a database from tape to a directory on disk partition 2
and change the environment variable in the dictionary to point to the new
directory then everything is ok.

However if we leave the variable pointing to disk partition 1 and copy the
database (using either mv or cp ) from partition 2 onto partition 1 then
we lock up when trying to access the database.

If we restore the database onto a different directory on partition 1 and then
perform the cp or mv to move it to where the dictionary points to, we dont
have
any problems whatsoever.

It only seems to be when we copy across disk partitions.

Any ideas????
