I tend to agree Arthur, but you have to weigh the cost of the ODBC driver
against the cost of the RDBMS license and the effort to migrate the data and
applications :-)

Against that you have the drawbacks such as limited performance which you
mention (although that might not be an issue on a "lightly" used web site),
and the fact that the ODBC drivers force you into treating your
non-relational data as though it was actually in a relational DBMS --
meaning that any redefinitions, substructures and arrays that you might use
today will simply not be available any more.

My own personal preference would be to "bite the bullet" and migrate to a
relational database. As I said, just my own personal preference.
