Hi,
We've just converted our PH app from v7.10e6 on OpenVMS V6.2 to v7.33d3 on
HP/Unix 10.20. Most things converted well, but I have one question about
maintaining our software.
I needed to make changes to the main QKGO file of our application. On OpenVMS,
I would just copy the QKGO file to a working directory, make the changes, test
them, then copy the file back. Since RMS on OpenVMS uses version numbers, any
person currently using the old QKGO would continue using the old one until they
exited, and any newcomers to the app would get the new version. After a day
went by, I would simply purge the old QKGO file to get rid of it. Very safe.
My question is: since UX doesn't have versioning, how do I safely replace the
QKGO file? Do I just wait until everyone's out of the app? Or is the whole
shmear pulled into memory, and I can just replace the QKGO, provided PH never
needs to revisit the original?
TIA,
