I agree - the pricing is outrageous. When I went to the early demonstrations
they had not yet decided how to market the software but suggested it would
be available for a "nominal" sum, which for a client-based product I took to
mean well under £1,000 per seat. On this basis I was quite enthusiastic, but
when it turned out to be £20,000 minimum all sensible discussion ceased.

Of my last 6 clients (over the last two years), all but one rejected the
product as
an act of greed on the part of Cognos. That is, it is priced the way it is,
but it
can be priced that way. (Y2k Hype etc...)

Perhaps the reason it is quirky is because it was built in Real Objects now
a
dead
product offering...(not trying to be too negative, just an observation !)
