I was going to do a quick survey on this topic, and how PH programmers get
to find about feature in new releases in general..

I am a consultant and at the place I currently work, the operations staff
got the update and the release manuals. I was not until I was trying to
implement 7.10g1 and had a problem, that I was able to find out where the
release manuals were.

Now after reading the release notes the question becomes:

who has heard of the new data type ZDATE?
how did you find out about it?

how long have I been in ignorance of these features?
could I have found out about them earlier and is so how?

Main feature I remember are
data type ZDATE se below
input century Y for year X eg input centure 19 for year 50
                           ie if year of date >=50 the centure is 19
                              if < 50 then century is 20
Also another interesting command is
formatnumber (number,+ve_format_string,-ve_format_string)

***********************************
P.S. ZDATE allows storage of the century in 6 character format
     such that  991231 = 19991231
                A00101 = 20000101
                A10101 = 20010101
                B01010 = 20100101
                B90101 = 20900101    ..... etc
              ie the 1st 2 chars Ax = 200x
                                 Bx = 201x   etc

    I believe that if you have dates stored as
** character size6** or ** zoned-u size6 ** and you do not have any
advanced dates, then to be y2k compliant, all you have to do is change the
data type to ZDATE and include the new INPUT CENTURY command in the
dictionary, then just recompile! You may not even have to convert advanced
dates!

Could anybody let me know if I an wrong, please.
