G'day John
I think that you will either have to construct your own tool to read the
code logic and format it into something readable, or perhaps use the Axiant
workbench to analyse the code.
Axiant, from what I understand, has built in tools that scan PowerHouse
source code and stores information about it, including code dependencies, in
a database. This database can be viewed with a GUI front end and should be
reportable, perhaps using Impromptu.
If it was VMS, writing scripts using DCL should be fairly easy. In UNIX I
don't know. You do have grep and awk to play with but no real scripting
language unfortunately. Perhaps PERL?
Good luck
Blue

Subject: Documentation tools
Here's a query from New Zealand...
We are currently running Powerhouse on Unix with an Oracle database.
We need to document the Powerhouse code for our Hydrocarbon Accounting
System. The system uses some 700-800 programs within 100 tables in the
database. The system has evolved over several years and as usual the
documentation has not kept up with the changes. We need to re-document
what
the programs do.
Can people please advise suitable CASE tools to map/document the
Powerhouse
source code in this configuration (not the database relations, which we
can
already do with Oracle tools).
We are aware of Architect and its documentation features. Any other
suggestions (other than manually documenting the code)?
