G'day Alex
What Oracle RDBMS are you wanting to migrate to? Oracle Rdb or Oracle 7 or
Oracle 8? This matters as O*Rdb has a dual transaction model (read only,
read/write) vs the single transaction model for O*7 and O*8 (read/write).
What version of PowerHouse are you using? If you are staying OpenVMS, I
believe only PH 8.10 and above supports Oracle 7/8 RDBMS.
Cognos has a course and white paper specifically targeted to clients "Moving
to Relational". The white paper should be downloadable from the support
area on the Cognos web site.
There are a number a basic rules to work with in the conversion and quite a
bit of analysis work to do. The full answer to your question would be too
much to put on the list.
Email me directly if you want to discuss it 'off-line'. I recommend reading
the Cognos white paper first though.
Regards,
Blue

Subject: Migration from DEC RMS files to Oracle RDBMS
Does anyone have experience in this type of migration? I'm specifically
concerned about the difference in transaction models QUICK vs. RDBMS.
Our code
has overridden the default procedures and has a lot of explicit GET /
PUT. How
would this work in a relational transaction model? Is there something in
the
RDBMS config that dictates the actual COMMIT?
Your help is appreciated!
