ELEMENT vs ITEM definition

I had the same problem under VMS 710G.

Element called NEWLINE char*1 with a value of 10.

This was so that we could write a newline character to a file.

The PDL who not accept it but luckily I could change the PDL and then adjust
if Element using the dictionary manager.

Could this be another reason for the dictionary manager to be
kept/transferred to Unix ???
