Quick Screen Index Retrieval Mystery

[etc]

You say the default screen works, but yours doesn't. You don't include it, but
you hope we'll tell you what's wrong with it. If you want constructive help,
include all the information you can: the screen source, the record structure,
and an example of a failing record.

The only suggestions I'd add to what's already been said:

Look at any input procedures to see if they massage key values.

*** DON'T COPY DEFAULT PROCEDURES INTO YOUR SOURCE UNLESS YOU MUST *** : this
adds considerably to maintenance (as you've discovered spending time removing
them). This is one of my pet hates, since it was a (senior) ex-colleague's bad
habit: I'm still throwing them away as and when I come across them.
I'm inclined to think early attendance of the advanced course is a bad thing
for this reason: 3GL programmers should be thoroughly retrained & undergo a
prolonged abstinence from procedural code before they're allowed procedures
again, otherwise they can be inclined to take the (superficially) easy option
of retaining their old concepts & methodologies.

Regards, Chris
