We use CMS for all source code, and dictionary PDL.
It's also capable of storing binary files, but mostly we don't.
It's from Digital, part of DECSET, and integrates well with the other tools in
that package (although the others are of limited use for Powerhouse).
The whole package is quite expensive, but you can buy the components (such as
CMS) on their own. If you've got the layered products CD, you can probably get
an evaluation licence for free from Digital to look at it for a month.
I believe it's also available for Unix.
It supports unlimited versions (generations), and allows generations to branch.
It allows groups of files, and named sets of versions (classes). It supports
reviews, and manages concurrency. Any other questions please ask. You might
want to use the Info-VAX list for VMS queries.
I'm not aware of any other packages, except PVCS for PCs - our PC people tried
that (because they were VAXophobes) and abandoned it.
