I think we had well over 1000 screens at my other site.
Maybe twice that many Quiz programs. We never did mass
recompiles without considering it a major undertaking.
The programs then take on all dictionary changes(elements,
etc?), and therefore must be tested before being allowed
into the production environment. We generally only recompiled
when we had to, adopting the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
philosophy.

VMS/RMS is nice for this, we put filler fields of 500 bytes or
so into every record. With compression, it only used 5 bytes
of space until we put something into it.
