Phd also is handy for surfing your dictionary, checking
for used element names and the like. It also has some nifty
utilities like "show me all the records that use this element",
global renames and deletes, etc. Are those functionalities
present in PDL, or will something like a global rename
require a complete recompile?

BTW, I worked at a site where the dictionary was too large to
compile the PDL source. After 45 minutes of scrolling elements
and records by, it just puked and quit. We tried it several
times and at various times of the day without ever getting it
to recompile.
