>What are the dates of the conference?
The conference is from June 10 to 12 in Atlanta, GA. Registration cost
$995.
The room rate at the Marriott is $155 per night. The conference has
multiple
'streams' and a number of common sessions. All of the pre conference
training
courses are filled.
>How many days does it include?
There are two streams relating to PowerHouse, 'Inside PowerHouse and
Power2000' and 'Axiant'. The sessions for both are spread over the three
days. The are also a number of 'Cognos Classroom' sessions as well as
one-on-one options with Cognos staff and partners. There is a 'hands on'
option for new products and new versions of old products.
Is this something you think you can apply/put to use at VSS? How?
Yes. The greatest benefit I see in attending such an event is the
'networking' with peers. You can gain a lot of experience in sharing your
issues with PowerHouse with others who may have been through them. Many
Cognos clients have developed innovative solutions/work arounds to business
problems and/or software bugs. Quite a number of PowerHouse sites have
already
been through the upgrade you are doing and can provide a lot of insight.
Year
2000 issues, or how others have dealt with them, is also a valuable learning
point.
Cognos will be demonstrating PowerHouse Web. As intranets are the 'in'
thing
now, getting an early view of the part PH can play will help you put
together
a business model/justification for its features in the future. I.e. VSS can
actually be proactive and plan its future software environment rather than
be
reactive to industry fashion.
Is this something you can share witht he rest of the group?
Yes.
This is the humble opinion of one who cannot afford to attend (sic).
