Check out the EDIT verb in the Quiz manual. As in:

DEFINE D-TRAN/COMP CHAR*1 = PARM UPSHIFT &
  PROMPT "Use transaction date or complete date [T,C] : "
EDIT D-TRAN/COMP VALUES "T", "C"
