I've seen this before and I believe it is adding an extra character for
the sign field. Try an empty sign field, either in the dictionary or on
the field statements. Eg field X pic "^^^^" leading sign "". I have used
this on field statements and it works, although I know it does not work
at the dictionary level on some platforms.
