help with PH8 on HP/UX PDL

Hi Robert,

I remember coming across something similar while working for Cognos Support in
Sydney.

You may want to consider the following, as it may be this simple. Powerhouse is
case insensitive, but UNIX is case SENSITIVE, so any references to files (or
subfiles, or system variables) or other products (like ORACLE) have to be
specified in the correct case within the Powerhouse dictionary. From memory I
think "type oracle" in the dictionary, should be "type ORACLE". The connect
string (i.e. username/password etc...) I think is also case sensitive.

In any case there should be documents relating to this type of problem in the
Cognos Knowledge Base available to all clients via the WEB. A search engine is
provided to allow search for documents by key words. If not sure how to access
this valuable resource of information, contact your friendly Cognos staff
(sorry, old habit).

Also, there is no PHDMAINT on UNIX. So... to maintain your dictionary, you need
to use the combination of qshow (to extract the current version into a text
file, which you edit with your favorite editor, and I have seen people who hate
'vi' download this file to their PC and edit it in MS Word!!!) and pdl to
create the new version of the dictionary.

Also, as when using any Relational database, the database dictionary acts as a
dynamic subdictionary to the Powerhouse dictionary, that is if the only
reference to what is in the database is the file statement, a change in the
database does not require any changes to the Powerhouse dictionary.

I hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Arthur Kogan.
