While I can appreciate the need to not get bogged down in complex
changes, don't you think your approach is a little short sighted?
Replacing a few lines with one that is clearer and cleaner, after
checking to see if the intermediate results (in the previous defines)
aren't used elsewhere in the code, doesn't seem like much extra effort
and could save time in later debugging.
