VAX vs Alpha compiles

Just to add my tuppence worth, we compile everything on a VAX running VMS
6.2 and deploy largely on Alpha running VMS 7.1. Never caused any problems
that I am aware of. Powerhouse version 7.10.F2, soon to be G1.

As someone else said, cost of Alpha development licences is a significant
factor.
