QTP Sort

We had an issue with sorting large amounts of data once.  We tried using
QUIZ 
and/or QTP but found it too slow.  I asked Cognos what the sort mechanism
was 
and they said PH piped out to the VMS Sort utility.  We decided to run a 
preprocess in QUIZ and output to a data file, execute the VMS Sort utility 
from DCL and do final processing in QTP/QUIZ.  The result was a dramatic 
improvement in performance, contrary to Cognos's advice. 
 
If you are using an RDBMS, adding indexes to tables to also dramatically 
improve performance as the database does the work instead of PH.
