<font size=2 face="sans-serif">PowerHouse will convert between various
numeric datatypes but not from numeric to character and vice versa.</font>

<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">In Scenario 1, character data is just
a set of bytes with anything in them. So as long as the size in bytes is
the same, change the dictionary, check usage in the screens, runs, and
reports, and recompile.</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">In scenario 2, as far as I recall, PowerHouse
does nothing with the datatype information for relational databases. With
RDB, all PH uses the dictionary for is logical element information such
as formatting. That said, the logical type, numeric, date or character
must be consistent with the database. So unless there is a basic type difference,
you shouldn't have to do anything. Should be easy enough to test on a simple
screen or report.</font>
