size=2>Technically speaking, a NODICT subfile is NOT a self-describing file. It
is typically used to interface to some other software, not PowerHouse. If we
start using special records, then the other software must take that into
account. This would be a break from tradition with PowerHouse. I'm not saying
that it would not be useful, I'm just saying that it's not something we've ever
done. Besides, if you want the description or any other dictionary type
information, you can create a regular subfile and ignore the dictionary portion

allow the description if it's a NODICT subfile but the dictionary certainly
has a DESCRIPTION option on the FILE and RECORD statements. I don't know how
difficult it would be to add to the subfile equivalents and the routines. I'll
